Blood should not be the stain and a badge of shame that one must wear. Unfortunately, this is the reality for young girls or women in remote villages in Africa. Management of their menstrual cycle has been minimized to using leaves, dirty rags, or nothing at all.  When it is “that time of the month,” the blood flows onto their clothes and bodies, leaving a stain and stench that has become a natural part of their lives. They can’t practice good hygiene because they don’t have access to clean water, so the cycle of feeling dirty, unworthy, and invisible continues.

The community learns and works together to tackle the issue of menstrual hygiene management.

It all starts with clean water, and Generosity Global is dedicated to providing clean water to remote villages in Africa. With access to clean water, deeper needs within the community can be addressed. A woman’s health and hygiene are paramount to how she feels about herself. It dictates her empowerment and her self-worth. Access to clean water coupled with education helps women improve their hygiene, gain knowledge about their health, and feel better about who they are.

Generosity Women, a women’s initiative under Generosity Global, is using the power of Generosity to uplift women. On April 30th, 2021, our women’s health and hygiene program will commence in Kisii, Kenya. Under the teaching of our program coordinator Nancy Oiruria, seventy-five women will learn how to manage their menstrual cycle by making reusable pads, practicing good hygiene, and receiving education about their reproductive health.
