This past Selfless Saturday was amazing as always. We had over 60 volunteers come out to serve over 200 homeless men, women, and children. This Selfless Saturday was so special because #GenerosityKids were on the front lines serving, interacting, and connecting with these men, women, and children. It was a beautiful sight to see because you could tell they were really enjoying serving but you could also see that it was a learning experience as well.
Before serving we always start with a prayer to bless the food and to thank God for allowing us to acquire the resources to serve those in need. After the prayer the line started to move pretty quickly. A young girl was overheard saying “Wow, it’s so many people”. At that moment she realized how real homelessness is. She understood how blessed she was to have food in the refrigerator, a warm bed to go to at night, and clean clothes to put on her back. As you looked up and down the line the children serving were so eager to give away what they could. Some of their arms were already stretched out with food and water in hand before someone was even fully in front of them to receive it. Others were so generous by giving out 2 or 3 items to the same person. The smiles on #GenerosityKids faces and the individuals receiving were wide and full of joy. This is what Generosity:Global is all about, using the power of generosity to positively impact others.
Throughout Selfless Saturday there were smiles, thank you’s, hugs, and stories being exchanged among the homeless and those who were serving. Parents beamed with pride watching their children serve. They know how big of an impact this experience can have on their child and in return their child will value the things they have but they could possibly also discover the passion for helping those who are less fortunate. As Selfless Saturday came to a close all the children who volunteered were presented with a Generosity:Global certificates of appreciation. Big smiles filled their faces and a sense a fulfillment was felt among them knowing they made a positive impact in someones life on that day.
Be sure to come out to our next Selfless Saturday on May 14th, 2016. We encourage you to continue to bring your children out to serve and #beselfless.
